Simper's Silver Harvest
We have worked and farmed in and around the Deben estuary since 1940 when Norman Simper bought his family here from near by Blaxhall in search of a larger farm on which to expand his dairy heard. In 1942 he expanded into Ramsholt where we, his decedents - three generations of the Simper family - now live, work, farm and fish.
Never being ones to stand still, we have in tune with the changing times, diversified our business interests since the days of Norman's renowned dairy heard. Today Robert Simper and his son Jonathan run Simper Farms in partnership specialising in asparagus and high value root crops. Jonathan's son Harry Simper runs Simper's Silver Harvest LLP together with his father and grandfather making the most of their shared love of the sea and their farm's coastal location by growing and harvesting oysters and mussels on the Deben and fishing the Suffolk coast with a fleet of four commercial day boats. Clare Simper has devoted herself tirelessly to her love of horses and the art of riding side saddle advancing to SSA advanced instructor she now coaches riders at all levels on the farm and at clinics. Clare and Jonathan also offer livery on part of the farm and make some parts available as a venue for outdoor functions. Jonathan also takes small groups on private charters on his restored 1914 Leigh Bawley, Mary Amelia. The family have a small portfolio of holiday cottages located near Aldeburgh and at the farm in Ramsholt where you can have a horse holiday or farm stay and also in Looe, Cornwall. Robert Simper, continues to write about local and maritime history and his experiences in the countryside and on the water. His books are published by Creekside Publishing and Three Crowns Press.
